I’ve been a supporter of the Green Party for a long time but only took the step of becoming a member in August 2021. I soon became active in my local party and also joined Green Party Women. It’s through GPW that I became connected with other women in the Green Party and with the wider party itself. I made friends through GPW’s bookclub and learned much from the engaging webinars that GPW held for its members.
By the time of the GPW elections in January 2023, I felt ready to contribute and stood for election as Secretary for Green Party Women. Since joining the Green Party, I had become increasingly aware both that the Party had moved away from its ecological roots and that some of its policies were actively harmful to women and girls. Because of this, I was a founding signatory of the Green Women’s Declaration which was launched in August 2023. In January 2024, I succesfully stood for re-election as Secretary for Green Party Women, this time on an explicit platform of supporting women’s sex based rights.
In June 2024, I was deemed to have broken 4.7 of the Constitution and thus to have forfeited my membership of the Green Party. I have, in effect, been expelled for 5 years.
The record of my termination of membership included screenshots of tweets posted by an anonymous account, deemed to be mine, which – while not saying that the tweeter was going to vote for Alison Teal or asking others to vote for her – expressed sympathy for the appalling way in which she, the rightfully elected candidate for Sheffield, had been treated. This was deemed to be campaigning for someone standing against a “properly selected Green candidate”.

I believe that I was targeted because I have vocally supported women’s sex based rights.”
